Advent Message
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The Season of Advent is one of anticipation in which we long for Our Lord’s Second Coming and prepare for the celebration of Christmas. There are several upcoming liturgical celebrations which are opportunities for us to receive God’s grace which can transform us so that we can bear authentic Christian witness to our relatives, friends, and indeed everyone.
On December 8th, of course, we celebrate the Immaculate Conception. Through a singular act, God preserved Our Blessed Mother from all stain of sin in view of her vocation to be the mother of His Son. I look forward to joining all of you for this holy day of obligation.
On December 12th, we will again celebrate Mary as Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Queen of the Americas. A beautiful evening is planned beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Church and which will include, a recounting of the Guadalupe story, Holy Mass, and a dinner in the parish hall.
The Advent Season culminates with Christmas Day and the joy of celebrating the Lord’s birth beginning with vigil Masses on December 24th at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Masses on December 25th will be at 7:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 11:00 a.m.
Finally, we have had a wonderful, blessed Silver Jubilee Year with so many wonderful events at our church and school. Some of the highlights included the visit of Bishop Burbidge in January, George Weigel’s appearance at the Knights’ barbecue, Father John Meyerhofer’s First Mass, Monsignor Saunder’s presence with us on the parish anniversary in June, the school’s 20th anniversary gala, the Knight’s 25 anniversary breakfast, and the retirement of the parish debt and the “burning of the mortgage”. I am very grateful for the many parishioners who worked together to make this events possible and the year so special.
We will close the parish’s Silver Jubilee with a solemn Mass at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, December 28th which is the Feast of the Holy Family. As the parish is a family of families, I think it is most appropriate that we close the Jubilee on this day.
To all of you, I send prayers and best wishes for a blessed Advent and joyous Christmas Season.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Father Killian
